No ugly duckling, but a truly beautiful swan all her life: The legendary Soviet dancer Maya Plisetskaya (1925-2015) was a living proof of aesthetic work. Indeed, in 1960 she was named prima ballerina assoluta at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. As a child she spent four years living in Barentsburg, Svalbard. Looking back on her Arctic childhood, she first and foremost remembered the white gold: “Clean, white, crystal, glowing snow. I NEVER GOT OFF MY SKIS.”
